Present to camera with confidence

If you’ve ever had to present to camera, then you’ll know that nailing the perfect presentation can be an exercise in frustration.

That’s why ten80i can incorporate the use of our teleprompt system why delivering your message to camera and why it is such a valuable piece of equipment, by using our teleprompter you can be assured that those key messages are professionally delivered, time after time, giving your production a more polished broadcast look.

There are presenters who can deliver a presentation or corporate message, but usually with a lot of preparation prior to the shoot, using a combination of ad-lib and our teleprompter, you can turn a presentation into a great presentation with less of your time to prepare for your presentation.

Here’s some tips on how to improve your to camera presentation:

Write your script for talking – not for reading

Write your script to be spoken, not read. it’s important to write in a way that when spoken it sounds natural.

For example, Use words such as “we’ve” . . . not, “we have” or use the word “haven’t” instead of “have not”.

It’s also easier to read a script that’s written with a normal mixture of upper and lower case rather than all in capitals.

Write out numbers in full. For example write the words “one thousand two hundred and twenty . . . not 1,220.

Practice, Practice

There’s no substitute for practice. The more you practice and personalize the text, the more you’ll put meaning to the words.

It’s also very important to practice aloud. See just how the words roll off your tongue, and if necessary make changes to the text that will make it easier for you to deliver.

Passion and Energy

Give your performance passion by upping the energy, turn yourself up . . . not in volume, but in emotion, and instantly become more interesting and appealing to watch.

Don’t forget to smile!

Don’t forget to smile. Smiling is perhaps the simplest way to connect with your audience. The warmth of a smile is a must at the very least at the begining and very end of your performance.

A smile can also be used throughout the delivery, almost regardless of the subject matter, as though you’re telling a funny story. A smile creates an attitude that’s captivating to watch, although of course there may be some occassions when a smile is not appropriate.

Very important… maintain eye contact

The magic of using our teleprompter is that it enables you to look directly towards the camera lens, creating the illusion of eye contact with your audience. Take full advantage of this by not looking away. Your continuous gaze really does engage your audience. Eye movements away from the camera as you are speaking can make you look a bit ‘shifty’ or dishonest with your message. In some cases the teleprompter will me mounted off the camera and to the side (when not talking directly to the audience – such as interview style), in this case it is still good to maintain eye contact with the prompter (and ignore the camera) our directors are interested in making you look good on camera and will always assist to ensure that you present well and look good doing it.

Use Non Verbal Communication

Appropriate facial expressions and hand gestures are important to your performance.

Using gestures and expressions to amplify your words and stress important points show that you are passionate about what you’re saying is good, but remain natural, do not force yourself do make gestures for the sake of it.

Don’t follow the teleprompter speed

Our teleprompter operator is trained to follow your speed of delivery, so deliver your speech with pacing that’s appropriate and comfortable for you. Don’t rush through your presentation, remember to breath and take your time, also be confident that the words will always be ready on the prompter, if you pause or even improvise  your next words will be waiting on the teleprompter screen, waiting for you to pick it up where you left off.

Enjoy yourself

Enjoy the experience . . . we are more interested that you are enjoying the to-camera experience and so is your audience, we work with you to ensure that the best delivery can be presented and that you look confident and relaxed.
